About Kirsty Hawkshaw
"Kirsty Hawkshaw has well over 50 collaborations to her name. It's possible that the actual number is twice that. Her voice is unmistakable to anyone who has obsessed over even two songs she's worked on. Outside of vocals, she has created an ambient release called "The Ice Castle" which is on magnatune.com/artists/albums/hawkshaw-ice/,
Kirsty Hawkshaw is a co/partner of a new exciting efficient running label with music specifically written and produced by herself with coaching by efficient runner Helen Hall. www.barefoot-audio.co.uk
Kirsty Hawkshaw is a female Dance/Electronica/House/Ambient/Drum and Bass/ Artist, photographer and songwriter who is known for her signature atmospheric vocals.
Hawkshaw was born in London, England in March 1969 and is the daughter of British Disco producer Alan Hawkshaw.
Kirsty started recording sounds and her own vocal recordings at the age of 3 years old after her Father gave her a tape recorder.
At a rave event in 1991 she was noticed by producers Opus 111, who at the time were known as A.S.K. It was through this meeting that they would form a Dance act called Opus III. Their first single, “It’s A Fine Day” from their debut album Mind Fruit was an international smash and hit #1 on Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1992. They also had another US #1 hit on the Dance chart in 1994 with “When You Made The Mountain” from their second and last album Guru Mother. The album outsold Prince and Madonna in 1992 in Japan.
After the group broke up in 1994, Hawkshaw pursued a solo career and wrote her first solo album which ended up being produced by Mark Pritchard from Harmonic 313. Since then her unique voice has been in demand by other acts in the Dance, House, Eurodance, Trance, and Electronica community, and she sang vocals and co/wrote on some of DJ Tiesto's finest moments songs such as "Just Be', Walking on Clouds', and Battleship Grey - on many occasions while touring, Kirsty has been called 'The Voice of Tiesto', but Kirsty would adamantly disagree and claim that her voice belongs to her'!. Kirsty has a close friendship with BT and sang on his album 'Movement in Still life' on the songs 'Running Down the Way Up, and his cover of Dreaming originally written by co/writer of Just Be Judie Tzuke. Kirsty is also currently featured on BT's new album 'These Hopeful Machines.' She was also the featured 'hands in the air' vocal moment on Orbital's classic 'Halcyon' Brown and sang the arabic vocal on Lush. She also appears in the video for Halcyon.
Kirsty is also venturing into the sublime world of liquid Drum and Bass and in 2010 plans to release some collaborative releases with the only Ambient Drum and Bass producer currently in existence 'Paradox' aka Alaska on stunning White Vinyl. She also had a release in Feb 2010 with Sweden's Seba with 'The Joy', and Devotions. Kirsty is also working with DJ Fresh and Adam F under the guise 'Liquid Kaos', and they have their debut single soon to be released on Toolroom recordings in March 2012.
But while her voice continues to soar in many dance hits around the world, Kirsty has been creating a different kind of music in her home studio. Her style is ambient electronica with no or minimalist vocals, that is serene, innocent and sublime.
The ambient side of Kirsty started with "Pulusha," a collaboration with Global Communication's Mark Pritchard in the 1990's. Her extraordinary talent has evolved further over the years, enhanced by live performances, recording sessions, and solo studio excursions.
On October 10, 2005 she released Meta-Message through the record label Nettwerk, a collection of older and newer songs after a growing interest in her out-of print "On Ultimate Things' aka O<U>T which was produced by Mark Pritchard aka Harmonic 313 and Troubleman, Global communication, Jedi Knights etc.
2012 will no doubt be an exciting year, Kirsty is about to release a long awaited album with Ulrich Schnauss scheduled for July 2012.
